How is the cost of SMT patch soldering calculated


The calculation of SMT patching prices is now almost transparent, and the algorithm for determining the cost per point is straightforward. However, it is first necessary to clarify the concept of "point". Different companies adopt varying algorithms, but for a PCB board, the total cost of SMT patching processing remains consistent.

The core of SMT patching processing is to mount surface - mount components onto the solder pads of a PCB. Some companies count one solder pad as one point, while others consider two solder pads as one point. In this article, we take the example of calculating one point per solder pad. It only requires calculating all the solder pads on the PCB board. However, for some special components such as inductors, large capacitors, ICs, etc., additional calculations are needed. The specific empirical methods are as follows: for example, an inductor can be counted as 10 points, and an IC is calculated as half the number of pins (for example, a 40 - pin IC is counted as 20 points). According to the above methods, the total number of solder pads on the entire PCB board can be easily calculated.

In the current market, the unit price of solder joints varies, ranging from 0.008 to 0.03 yuan per solder joint. This is determined by the process difficulty of SMT processing and the SMT manufacturer's requirements and capabilities for patching quality control.
1. Unit price by process:
  • A. Lead - containing solder paste SMT patching processing: The price is relatively cheap.
  • B. Lead - free solder paste SMT patching processing: The cost is relatively high.
  • C. Environmentally friendly red glue SMT patching processing: The cost is relatively low.
  • D. Dual - process SMT patching with solder paste and red glue: The cost is high, and the process is relatively troublesome.
2. By order quantity:
  • A. Common SMT patching proofing processing (1 - 20 pieces): Engineering fees will be charged, and it will not be calculated by multiplying the number of points by the unit price.
  • B. Small - batch SMT patching production (less than 1,000 pieces): Setup fees + (number of points × unit price) will be charged.
  • C. Mass SMT patching processing: It is calculated by multiplying the number of points by the unit price.
3. Setup fees:
Orders with a single - batch and single - model processing fee of less than 1,500 yuan are small - batch processing orders. For small - batch SMT patching processing orders, after calculating according to the number of points, setup fees ranging from 800 to 2,000 yuan will be added depending on the type of components on the board, the debugging time of the patching machine, and the difficulty of making the first article.
4. Proofing fees:
An SMT patching processing order with one model within 100 pieces is an SMT patching proofing order. Engineering fees ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 yuan are charged depending on the difficulty of the board, the programming time, and the machine changeover time.
5. Stencil fees:
Stencils of different models are opened according to the size of the PCB board. According to the precision of the chips on the PCBA board, electropolished stencils or ordinary stencils are selected. The fees for different stencil models and categories are approximately between 200 and 600 yuan. Of course, customers can also provide their own stencils.
